Most Septembers in Scottsdale hand you one thing at a time. Restaurant Week shows up, you go to a few dinners, it ends. A gallery hangs a new show, you catch it whenever you catch it, because the run is seven weeks long and there's no urgency. The Desert Botanical Garden keeps its evening hours going until it doesn't, and you either made it out on a Saturday or you didn't.
This year the three calendars actually cross paths, and only for about ten days. If you know the exact dates, you can turn two separate errands into one night out. If you don't, you'll spend late September doing three trips instead of two.
Three Clocks Running at Once
Here's what's actually on the board right now, not the version that gets flattened into "fall is here" copy:
Fall Arizona Restaurant Week runs Friday, September 18 through Sunday, September 27. For ten days, participating restaurants across Scottsdale and the rest of the Valley offer three-course, prix-fixe dinners at $33, $44, or $55 per person, alongside their regular menus. It's a twice-a-year event, spring and fall, and this is the fall window.
The Scottsdale Gallery Association's weekly ArtWalk runs every Thursday, 7 to 9 p.m., through the Scottsdale Arts District along Main Street and Marshall Way. It has run nearly every week since 1975. That part never changes.
Bonner David Galleries on Main Street opened a new solo show on September 10: "Flourish," a collection of floral work from Hunt Slonem, the artist better known for his rabbits and butterflies. The show runs through October 31, with a public reception October 1. Seven weeks is a long runway. Nobody needs to rush it.
The Desert Botanical Garden's Garden After Dark, its evening hours with the grounds lit and open until 10 p.m., closes for the season on September 30.
None of these four things were built to line up. They just do, this month, for a short stretch.
Why September 24 Is the Only Thursday That Counts Twice
Do the calendar math and one date falls out cleanly. September has four Thursdays: the 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th. Restaurant Week runs Friday the 18th through Sunday the 27th. That means exactly one Thursday, September 24, sits inside both the ArtWalk's weekly schedule and the Restaurant Week window.
- Thursday, September 10: Flourish opens at Bonner David Galleries, and it's an ArtWalk night, but Restaurant Week hasn't started yet.
- Thursday, September 17: Regular ArtWalk, the night before Restaurant Week opens the next evening.
- Thursday, September 24: Regular ArtWalk, and it's inside the Restaurant Week window. This is the one night where a gallery loop and a prix-fixe dinner reservation fit into the same evening without extra driving.
If you're only going to plan one night out this month around both the art scene and the dining deal, that's the one to book. Every other Thursday in September gives you one or the other, not both.
The Part Most Roundups Get Wrong
Here's where a lot of "what's happening in Scottsdale" lists trip up. There's a difference between the plain weekly ArtWalk and the themed Gold Palette ArtWalk, and people often assume fall means the bigger version kicks back in.
It doesn't, not this month.
The Scottsdale Gallery Association's own 2025–2026 Gold Palette schedule skips September entirely. The next themed night is Scottsdazzle on December 11, followed by Western Week on January 29. September's Thursdays are the standard version: galleries open, art on the walls, no extended hours, no themed live entertainment, no wine tastings built into the evening.
That's not a knock on the evening. It just means you should walk in expecting a straightforward gallery crawl, not the wine-and-live-music version that shows up around the holidays. Plan the dinner reservation as the main event on September 24, and treat the ArtWalk as the appetizer, because that's closer to what it'll actually be.
The Garden Doesn't Give You a Second Chance
Garden After Dark is the one piece of this overlap that doesn't reset next month. It closes September 30, and it's a seasonal run, not a rolling one. If you've been meaning to go, you're down to the last two full weekends of September before the lights inside the Desert Botanical Garden go back to daytime-only hours.
That closing date lands one week after Restaurant Week wraps, which means the back half of September is genuinely stacked: a prix-fixe dinner mid-week, a gallery walk on the 24th, and a last trip to the garden before it closes on the 30th, a Wednesday. None of those three things repeat on the same schedule again until next year, and two of them (Restaurant Week, Garden After Dark) won't be back until spring at the earliest.
What This Actually Means for Your Calendar
